New Canonical Parishes come into effect

As part of the ongoing pastoral re-organisation in the Diocese, a number of changes came into effect in the Cornwall and Dorset Deaneries on 1 April 2008. All the original Churches, including the Parish Churches, retain their dedications.

Cornwall Deanery

The parishes of The Immaculate Conception in Penzance, the Sacred Heart & St Ia in St Ives and St Joseph in Hayle have become one canonical parish. The parish has taken the name of Holy Family. The Parish Church is at Penzance, with our churches at St Ives and Hayle becoming chapels-of-ease. The parish priest is Fr Philip Dyson.

The parishes of St Mary Immaculate in Falmouth and St Mary in Helston have become one canonical parish, taking the name of St Mary. The Parish Church is at Falmouth with chapels-of-ease at Helston, Mullion and Mawnan Smith. The parish priest is Fr Jonathan Bielawski.

The parishes of St John the Baptist in Camborne and The Assumption in Redruth have become one canonical parish, taking the name Our Lady of all Nations. The Parish Church is at Camborne with Redruth as a chapel-of-ease. The parish priest is Fr Christopher Findlay-Wilson.

Dorset Deanery

The parishes of St Augustine in Weymouth, St Joseph in Weymouth and Our Lady & St Andrew on Portland have become one canonical parish, taking the name of Our Lady, Star of the Sea. The Parish Church is St Joseph's with St Augustine's becoming a chapel-of-ease. The church on the Isle of Portland has already been closed. The parish priest is Fr Stephen Geddes.
