The World Day of Migrants and Refugees (WDMR) will be celebrated on Sunday, 26 September. The theme chosen by the Holy Father for WDMR 2021 is Towards an ever wider “we”.   Pope Francis has called on us all to welcome, protect, promote and  integrate refugees and migrants and to ensure that “after all this, we will think no longer in terms of ‘them’ and ‘those’, but only ‘us’”.

In a new video,  the Holy Father asks us to learn to live together in peace and harmony, building a future enriched by diversity and intercultural relations.

What can we do?

  • We encourage everyone to celebrate WDMR as an occasion to express concern for different vulnerable people on the move; to pray for them as they face many challenges; and to increase awareness about the opportunities that migration offers. You can find prayers and resources here
  • We urge people to contact their MPs to share concerns about the Nationality and Borders Bill. You might like to use the resources, including a template letter, provided by JRS. (Jesuit Refugee Services)
