Retreats and Pilgrimages

Come away by yourselves to a secluded place and rest awhile.

Mark 6:31

Retreats

The Diocese of Plymouth offers several retreats each year. Each retreat is silent and individually guided by members of the Plymouth Diocesan Ignatian Spirituality Team. St Ignatius offered a vision of prayer by reflecting on one’s experiences of God and talking about them with others. All the retreats for 2019 will be held at Buckfast Abbey except the July retreat which is at Sclerder Abbey, Looe in Cornwall.

28–30 June (Friday–Sunday) Weekend retreat

7–12 July (Sunday–Friday) 5 day retreat

11–13 October (Friday–Sunday) Weekend retreat

14–18 October (Monday–Friday) Midweek retreat

11–18 October (Monday–Friday) 6 day retreat

15–17 November (Friday–Sunday) Weekend retreat – a ‘taster’ weekend for anyone who would like to try a retreat for the first time.

Pilgrimages

Christians have set out on pilgrimage since the earliest days of the Church. Travelling to the Holy Land as well as holy places around the world, such as Lourdes, Fatima and Walsingham  can be a source of grace and a real enrichment to our spiritual life. The diocese travels to Lourdes each year under the leadership of Bishop Mark. In 2019 the pilgrimage will be from 1–8 August. Flying from Exeter the cost per pilgrim is £795.
