‘The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.’ – Galatians 5:6

During this Jubilee Year, we are invited by Pope Francis to reflect on how we foster hope in a world suffering the impacts of war, the ongoing effects of COVID-19 pandemic, and a climate crisis.  We are asked to recover a sense of universal fraternity and to refuse to turn a blind eye to the tragedy of rampant poverty that prevents millions of men, women, young people and children from living in a manner worthy of our human dignity. “May the voices of the poor be heard throughout this time of preparation for the Jubilee, which is meant to restore access to the fruits of the earth to everyone”.

At Caritas, social action is at the heart of what we do: we are the charitable arm of our diocese. We work closely with our parishes and schools, the Catholic Children’s Society Plymouth, Stella Maris, SVP, and other partners to help people experiencing poverty, homelessness, and disadvantage across the Southwest. We are looking for one or two people in each parish to spread the good news about the mission of charity in our diocese. By sparing just an hour a month as a Caritas Parish contact, you can help us put love into action.

All we ask is that you, supported by the caritas team:

  • Keep your parish updated on Caritas news and events
  • Arrange for us to visit your parish to speak about our work and Catholic Social Teaching
  • Share our resources with interested parishioners
  • Encourage engagement with social action projects in your community.

We have already reached over 2,000 people through our events; with your help we can reach even more. So, become a Caritas parish contact today and make a difference to the lives of those around you. You can find more details here.
