Lent is a time for turning again to the practice of our faith – in prayer, self-denial (fasting) and practical generosity (almsgiving). It’s a time when we can prepare our hearts for the remembrance of Christ’s death. Our observance of Lent culminates in the solemn celebrations of Holy Week week.

Ash Wednesday is the doorway into this season of renewal. It is celebrated this year on Wednesday, 18 February.

There are a range of resources to support us during this time:

‘We Dare To Ask’ is a resource for small group faith-sharing and for individual meditation, featuring five sessions each helping to prepare us for Easter and focussing on the promises made at Baptism. Each session includes scripture, prayers and a reflection with questions. There is also a helpful introduction to the process of lectio and visio divina (the prayerful reading of Scripture and art). We Dare to Ask is available to download here.

Lent Family Fast Day is on Friday 27th February 2026.  CAFOD are asking for your support this Family Fast Day to help more of our neighbours grow enough to eat. Find everything you need to support CAFOD this Lent at home, at school or in your parish here.
