What started as a project to explore people’s views on where they see God in their everyday life and how we can all care for creation, has become a beautiful exhibition of photographs displayed at Plymouth Cathedral this week. In the run up to the global Laudato Si week and to celebrate this wonderful encyclical written as a legacy of environmental and ecological concern, Caritas Plymouth have collected photographs sent in by parishioners from across the diocese. People were asked to send in images to respond to three theme questions; Beauty – What about God’s creation, inspires you, brings you joy, and makes you draw deeper in relationship with him? Good choices – How do we change direction and look after the earth and all that is in it? What are the good choices we can put into our everyday living? and Humanity – Where do you see God’s love in action played out around you?  Each photograph is a response to these topics and the artists’ words have been shared to give hope and provide thoughts to ponder and to inspire.

Visitors to the exhibition wrote:

“I came to see the exhibition today and felt connected to the words and photos taken. Thank you for putting this together, it’s beautiful, aren’t we lucky to have this, we’d be fools to not look after it better. One World”.

“So good to see children involved and appreciating God’s creation”.

“A lovely inspiring exhibition which serves as an encouragement for us to remember and act on Laudato Si with urgency”.

We are delighted that the photographs come from each of our deaneries and show some of the splendour of our diocese. With a special thank you to all that have contributed their photographs and made this such an encouraging project. The exhibition will be running until 26 May, so come and enjoy this inspirational collection.

We know that there is so much going on in our diocese that we just don’t see or get to hear about. Caritas is keen to collect good news stories to share as inspiration and to celebrate just how well we reach out to all of those around us and look after this world we are custodians of.  As our churches are the centre of our communities, we have the opportunity to lead the way in Welcome, Friendship and Fellowship, Concern raising in Solidarity for those who feel abandoned and being a Voice of Goodness in this world. If you would like to know more about the work of Caritas, then please contact us at caritas@prcdtr.org or sign up to our newsletter. You may wish to become a Caritas friend to better connect us and our work to your parish.
