TOWER REPAIR WORKS
at
THE CHURCH OF OUR LADY & AT MARY MAGDALENE

Located on the A390 on the western side of Tavistock, the Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady & St Mary Magdalene is a grade II* listed building with an imposing tower. It is proposed to undertake repair and conservation works to the external fabric of the tower as well as clear internal areas and improve access to the tower internally. These works are to be competitively tendered and expressions of interest are being sought from contractors with experience in historic building works to be included on the tender list for this project.
The works will include the following:
a) Tower stonework repair and conservation works, including patch repointing.
b) Removal of vegetation to the tower externally.
c) Repairs and alteration of the tower belfry window louvres.
d) Clearance of pigeons and guano from tower internally.
e) Improved access including reinstatement of missing floor within the tower.
It is intended to competitively tender the works in October 2021. Significant completion of the works will be required by the end of March 2022 with actual completion by the end of June 2022. Contractors expressing an interested to tender will be asked to demonstrate their experience in working on similar projects on historic buildings with traditional lime based materials.
