World Day of the Poor

“I ask all Christian communities, and all those who feel impelled to offer hope and consolation to the poor, to help ensure that this World Day of the Poor will encourage more and more people to cooperate effectively so that no one will feel deprived of closeness and solidarity.”  -Pope Francis

The World Day of the Poor is central to Pope Francis’ mission on social action and an expression of Catholic Social Teaching (CST). It is therefore an annual Call to Action for Caritas organisations.

In his message for 2022, Pope Francis reflects on our current situation with conflict and climate change affecting the lives of everyone. He talks of the importance of solidarity: sharing the little we have with those who have nothing, so that no one will go without. As members of civil society, he invites us to continue to uphold the values of freedom, responsibility, fraternity and solidarity. And as Christians, to always make charity, faith and hope the basis of our lives and our actions.

We will be holding an event at St Rita’s in Honiton on Saturday 14 October 2023. To register your interest please email caritas@prcdtr.org.uk
