Caritas Plymouth is the Environmental Lead for the Diocese of Plymouth. Our Diocesan environment policy recognises that as a community, “we have an obligation to ensure that every person lives with dignity and has sufficient opportunities for his or her integral development” (Fratelli tutti #118). Each of us is called to take concrete steps – from reducing consumption to working for change – to better care for the Creation which God has entrusted to us. As individuals we can all play our part and, collectively, we can do a great deal.

We are keen to encourage action in our schools and parishes to Care for our Common home and are so grateful to have received National Lottery funding for our project, part of the #TogetherForOurPlanet programme. We are planning to work with schools and parishes this year to build a legacy of ongoing climate action – #OneStepGreener. We want to support events which encourage longer-term climate action at personal, parish and community level. Our goal is to encourage everyone to recognise the connection between our faith, our planet and the most vulnerable people and to take make a concrete commitment to preserving the gift of life on earth.

Actions can be anything from recycling more to planting a beautiful garden (like this lovely picture from our parish in Teignmouth). If you would like to be part of this exciting project please contact caritas@prcdtr.org.uk.
