Men's Rites of Passage (MROP) is a 5-day, life changing programme for men, developed by Fr. Richard Rohr OFM, which is offered annually. First run in the UK in 2003, since 2008 the MROP has been held in rotation in the countries of the UK and Ireland. This year the event will be held on 26-30 July 2010 at ‘The Bield', Perth, Scotland.
A feature of each MROP to date has been the attendance of men from the different countries and also men from mainland Europe. The Perth programme will be led by the Rev. Belden Lane, assisted by a team of experienced and accredited leaders. The cost is £385 - to include full board, or £300 camping (own tent, meals provided). Reductions are available for the unwaged.
Features of the programme are:
• A personal discovery about masculine spirituality.
• A time to savour the healing and awesome power of nature.
• A process to address issues of loss, grief, and relationships with father, other men, and others.
• An opportunity to examine life's priorities and ask courageous questions about your ‘next step'.
• An invitation to listen to the ‘quiet voice of God'.
• A chance to return to life with a renewed commitment to your gifts.
In the words of the programme's founder, Fr. Richard Rohr OFM: "Men are asked to come with a willingness to participate from beginning to end and not as an observer. All participants begin at point zero with no agendas to live up to or down to. All that is required is for a man to come with a 'beginner's mind' and the readiness of a young novice seeking wisdom. Ultimately, initiation, like life itself, is not a spectator's sport".
