Chrism Mass 2019
On the Wednesday of Holy Week at 12 noon Bishop Mark, the priests and people of the diocese gather at Plymouth Cathedral to celebrate the Chrism Mass.
During the Mass the priests renew their Priestly Promises to be more closely conformed to Jesus Christ and to serve his Church, to be faithful stewards of the mysteries of God, especially the Holy Eucharist and to teach, following Christ the Head and Shepherd.
Bishop Mark will bless the oils to be used in our diocese in the coming year; the Oil of Chrism, used for anointing during baptism and at ordinations; the Oil of Cathechumens, used to anoint those journeying towards baptism; and the Oil of the Sick, used to anoint those who are seriously ill or close to death. The oils are then distributed to every parish in the diocese.
If you are able to join us for the celebration you would be most welcome. If you are not able to come please join us in prayer at the time. Pray for Bishop Mark. Pray for our priests. And pray for our diocese, that we may truly reflect the love and the compassion of Jesus Christ, our Shepherd and our Lord.
